Schedule for week of 12/17(revised due to snow day on Thurs 12/13)

Due Monday 12/17. Juniors: Final draft of Dwayne persuasive essay due on turnitin.com.
In class on Monday, we will finish up poetry performances as needed.

Homework due Tues 12/18: Final draft of your best poem. Turn in 2 typed copies, one with your name, one without.
In class on Tuesday we will take a Poetry Practice test.

Wed 12/19: Poetry test.

Thurs 12/20: Poetry survivor day.

Fri 12/21 (half day): Awards given out to Poetry Survivors.

Look back over all your bad 1st draft poems. Choose your best one and re-write it. Turn in a nice, neat, clean copy of your best poem tomorrow.

Freshmen: write on bad narrative poem with a rhyme scheme in the style of Shel Silverstein
Juniors: write a blues song -- the WHRHS blues!
Homework due Friday 12/7:
Freshmen: write one bad imagist poem in the style of Ezra Pound
Juniors: write one bad poem critiquing a fairy tale of children's story in the style of "Never Depend on a Shoo-in Candidate."

Homework due Thurs 12/5:
Freshmen: write one bad lyric poem about a month of the year like Updike's "January" or write a narrative poem about something that happened to you at WHRHS.
Juniors: Write a bad poem about a character in the style of Robinson's "Richard Cory" or "Miniver Cheevy."
Homework due Wed 12/5:
Juniors: write one bad new 2nd stanza for Dickinson's "Safe in their Alabaster Chambers"
Freshmen: write on bad poem about a childhood memory in response to Simic's "Prodigy" or Kunitz's "The Portrait." You may not use the phrase "I will always remember." Instead, describe the event with such vivid detail that everyone who reads your poem will automatically understand that you will "always remember."
